THE TIME DRAWS NIGH.......

I just read over my very first post here and can't believe that time has moved so fast!
And I can't believe that the
HARVEST FOLKLORE FESTIVAL and CEMETERY STORYTELLING
is just around the corner!

We have soooo many things planned!
Gypsy Music with the Blind Goats, the 12th Regiment Civil War Soldiers,
Hay Wagon Rides, Darla the Goat,
Harvest Art Doll Challenge, Games, Fortunetelling, Artisans, Intricate Face Painting,
Treats, Snacks and more!

And......
a most special treat of a quick bus ride to the Morgan Road Cemetery
for a tour of the old cemetery and gypsy ancestor storytelling!

Tranquility, balance, a reconnect with nature-
the honoring of Ancestors long passed-
the remembrance of our history and our culture-
and the silence of observation and respect
reminding us of the rhythm of life...........

Won't you join us for something truly unique............

ROAD TRIP!

As the Sisterhood of the Goat is kindred in Spirit, our visit a few weeks ago prompted us to visit a couple of old cemeteries in the Canandaigua, NY area.  The following photos are merely for your enjoyment and not in any way connected with the Morgan Cemetery.
But I suspect, if you are reading this blog, you are a lover of old cemeteries, too!
Enjoy!

This wee cemetery we found right at the edge of an extremely busy highway, set smack in the middle of trailers, trucks, houses and a lawn.

I do love spending time in an old cemetery.
I hope you do, too.

Wee Sarah

Edith Aloft ~taken from a Victorian children's book

It was not a grand revelation that once I began to wander the cemetery I would
quite naturally, and in accord with human (and writer!) spirit, begin to develop an affinity
for certain graves and wonder greatly at their story.  The children, of course, always tug at your heart.

I will say, there aren't a great many for such a time,  but enough to make one stop
and ponder the circumstance.

For the era, and in a rural location besides, I was quite in awe of the extensive work that had been able to be done on a great many of the stones.  Those final words that the parents chose so carefully in their grief.

I bring to you then one of my favorites:

SARAH
Daughter of
S.S. & P. DEWEY
Died Feb.22 1853
AE.  8 yrs. 2 mos.
& 11 Ds.

She was lovely she was fair
And for awhile was given
An angel came and claimed his own
And brought her home to Heaven.

I love that there is a little lamb carved in the top of the stone.

Bless you, wee Sarah, you have been thought of this day.

The Rest of Yesterday

A lone flag was place beside an unmarked stone which, I admit, made my heart feel too big.

Here are some random shots of the cemetery that I took on yesterday's artistic prop journey.
